Onimusha: Way of the Sword on PS5 — Performance, DualSense and Features

Updated 2026-06-03

Onimusha: Way of the Sword on PS5 delivers the definitive console experience. Capcom optimized the RE Engine to hit a locked 60 FPS at dynamic 4K resolution. The DualSense controller adds haptic feedback for each sword swing, adaptive trigger resistance for the bow, and subtle rumbles when the Oni Gauntlet absorbs souls. Load times are under four seconds from the PS5's internal SSD. For comparison with other platforms, see the Xbox guide and PC guide. Source: PlayStation Store

DualSense features

The DualSense controller is used well here. Haptic feedback varies by surface type: wooden bridges feel different from stone temple floors. Adaptive triggers add tension when drawing the bow and resistance when charging a heavy attack. The speaker emits the Issen parry ring, giving audio feedback that helps with timing. 3D audio via Tempest Engine makes Genma growls positional, so you can tell where enemies are without seeing them.

The Ray Tracing mode is the prettiest way to play but locks to 30 FPS. For action games, most players prefer the 60 FPS Performance mode. You can switch between modes at any time from the settings menu.

Cross-save with PS4 is not available because there is no PS4 version. The PS5 version is the exclusive Sony console release. Check the achievements guide for the PS5 trophy list.

FAQ

Does PS5 support 120 FPS?
No. The game is capped at 60 FPS on PS5. There is no 120 Hz display mode currently planned.
Can I use a PS4 controller on the PS5 version?
DualShock 4 works for PS4 games via backward compatibility, but the PS5 version requires a DualSense for the full feature set. A standard PS4 controller works for basic inputs but misses haptics and adaptive triggers.
